Description
Our retail client based in Cape Town is seeking to employ a technically proficient Senior Network Engineer who is able to understand a complex data network environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Your daily tasks include, but not limited to:
- Hands on WAN and LAN support
- Provide management and advice on future network strategy and technologies.
- Provide technical input at a very detailed level around network / wireless faults and be able to liaise with external vendors to drive solutions.
- Make use of monitoring tools to pre-empt possible outages
- Take lead role in troubleshooting any IT Infrastructure issues.
- Project Management of network and datacentre related initiatives.
- Patch management strategy.
- Creating accurate management reporting information.
- Forecasting the growth in infrastructure requirements.
- Service availability using monitoring and alerting tools.
- High availability strategy.
- Scalability and capacity planning.
- Improve and optimise current infrastructure implementations.
- Document designs, specifications and implementations.
To be considered, you MUST have:
Must have 8+ years’ experience at senior network engineer level.
Essential skills:
- Excellent Cisco Datacentre core (Nexus) switching and routing skills.
- Cisco Catalyst, Aruba wireless and switching.
- Excellent security skills.
- Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
- Voice over IP (VoIP).
- Sound Routing protocol knowledge and setup – OSPF, BGP, EIGRP
- OSI Model, TCP/IP protocol suite (IP, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP)
- IP addressing and subnetting.
- Sound VLAN knowledge and configuration.
- Cloud network integration experience.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
Beneficial if you have experience in managing datacentres.
- Able to provide input and have knowledge on Power (UPS and Generator), HVAC, Fire suppression and Hot Isle containment configurations.
- Provide input and knowledge of structured cabling infrastructure.
