Duties & Responsibilities

Review and provide legal advice on documents.

Provide legal assistance to make sure the Group adheres to all Health and Safety regulations. Liaise with the Compliance Manager and advise on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures (within the scope of the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system).

Advise on all legal issues related to construction projects to ensure compliance with current construction laws and regulations.

Oversee client and vendor contracts and provide commercially and cost effective legal advice regarding current and potential contracts.

Scrutinize current and potential contracts and asses legal implications that need to be brought to the executive management’s attention.

Report on all the above.

Review and provide legal advice on tender documents.

Liaise with the Compliance Officer and advise on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures (within the scope of the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system)

Draft Legal Documentation:

Prepare, review and modify contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities.

Assist management with the negotiation and drafting of documentation for business transactions. Facilitate the Financial Department to register, de-register, modify and dissolve group companies within the requirements of the Companies Act.

Design new Agreements formats.

 

 

Levels of Authority:

Management Legal departments

Final approval of all legalities in contracts received from other parties.

Final draft of legal documents drafted.

Acquire the assistance of external parties to perform duties (consulting companies or law firms).

Measurable Outputs:

Efficiency of advice.

Correctness of documents drafted.

Maintaining of Records of all legal documentation.

Resolution of legal matters.

Minimize legal risk and satisfy the legal requirements of clients and business partners.

Compliance to all statutory registrations.

Staff productivity

Positive change in the companies’ contribution to the health and safety

 

Reporting Mechanisms & Frequencies:

Monthly written reports

Weekly updates on current matters to the Executive

 

 

 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

LLB degree.

At least 3 years’ relevant experience (practicing law or in the business environment).

Knowledge of JBCC, NEC and FIDIC construction contracts.

Must be an admitted attorney in South Africa.

Computer Literate.

Ability to converse in at least two official South African languages.

Ability to document formal correspondence (content, comprehension, grammar, spelling)

QMS Awareness; Policy; SP 01, 03, 05, 06, 07, 14, 17, 18, 19.
