Description

We are looking to recruit a legal advisor to work within the Legal department of Clicks Group Services. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Head of Legal.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Objectives:

  • Supporting and advising the group’s HR practitioners in developing and drawing up policies, managing disputes and engaging with trade unions;
  • Drafting and reviewing commercial contracts. This will include developing an understanding of the group, supporting the business in negotiations with third parties when required, considering and advising on the insertion of non-standard clauses in contracts and managing the internal and external costs associated with the drafting and implementation of contracts;
  • Assisting with the implementation and management of contract drafting, contract management and matter management software to aid in the delivery of legal services to the group;
  • Working with colleagues in the legal team to provide practical, easily-understandable legal advice on inter alia commercial, regulatory and employment law issues;
  • Monitoring developments in regulation that impacts on the group, and where necessary assisting in drawing up comments on prospective regulations, as well as timeously providing advice or drafting amendments to contracts to ensure that the group is able to comply with changes to the law;
  • Managing delivery by external law firms in the conduct of litigation for the group, including managing costs through inter alia ensuring efficient resource allocation and utilisation, and (where appropriate) actively participating in settling disputes;
  • Attending to queries on legal matters;
  • Reporting to internal clients on the status of matters, including (where required) to executives and directors;
  • Supporting colleagues in the legal department in the execution of their work, including engaging in constructive discussion and debate on our work;
  • Providing support to the business in relation to customer complaints; and
  • Identifying and mitigating legal risks to the group.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Job Related Knowledge:

  • Minimum three years post-admission experience with a law firm or at the Bar.

  • Substantive and demonstrable legal knowledge in three or more of the following fields: Commercial, consumer protection, administrative/public, corporate, employment, healthcare and insolvency law (essential)

Job experience:

  • Relevant work experience, either in house or as a service provider in retail, pharmacy or distribution, or in a highly-regulated industry
