As the Head of Music at our independent prep school, you will play a vital role in shaping the musical
education and experiences of our students. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our music
department, inspire our students, and maintain the high standards of musical excellence that our school is known
for. The successful candidate will have a deep passion for music and education, along with the ability to lead and
collaborate with a team of dedicated music teachers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging music curriculum for students from various age groups and skill levels.
  • Lead and manage the music department, including coordinating schedules, resources, events and staff.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive musical environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to students in various musical disciplines, including vocal and instrumental performance, music theory, composition, and music appreciation.
  • Organize and direct school musical productions, concerts, recitals, and other performances.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate music into interdisciplinary projects and events.
  • Stay updated with current music education trends and advancements, and implement innovative teaching methods and technologies.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, performances, and other music-related matters.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching music at the primary school level, with a proven track record of student achievement.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • A passion for music and a dedication to nurturing the musical abilities and talents of students.
  • Familiarity with technology and software used in music education and production.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Specialisation in Class Music or General Music teaching with a broad knowledge of the methodologies of Orff, Kodaly,
  • Delcroze, Suzuki and other relevant musicologists would be a strong advantage.
  • Experience in teaching Marimba ensemble.
  • A strong desire to develop and inspire other music teachers to grow in their various roles
  • Experience in using My Musicstaff and EdAmin management systems would be an advantage
