Description

Uplands strives to be Africa’s pre-eminent, independent, co-educational school operating under the
auspices of the Anglican Church, offering quality, holistic schooling to pupils from Grade 0000 to 12,
with outstanding boarding from Grade 4 upwards. Uplands is located on an extensive 110-hectare
estate in White River, close to the Kruger National Park. Uplands comprises the Pre-Preparatory
School, the Preparatory School, the College, Uplands Outreach and the Uplands Foundation.

The School requires a Head of Human Capital to lead, direct and implement the functions of the
Human Resources department. This position provides overall HR guidance in support of the School’s
strategy of attracting, retaining, motivating and developing staff. The Head will shape a positive
workplace culture where staff members are happy, productive, collaborative and who can achieve the
vision and mission of the School.
This is a highly people-focused role and requires an energetic individual with strong communication,
negotiation and interpersonal skills. The candidate will also have a good understanding of school
operations, payroll systems, information technology and HR administration

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a suitable professional qualification.
  • Have more than 5 years’ experience in a similar role (school environment would be an
    advantage).
  • Partner with the leadership team to execute the organisation’s Human Capital strategy.
  • Nurture a positive working environment and coordinate staff wellness.
  • Identify and develop programmes and initiatives that provide internal professional
    development opportunities for employees.
  • Provide support and guidance to HR department and other staff when complex, specialised
    and sensitive questions and issues arise.
  • Manage the core areas of the HR Department including recruitment, employee relations,
    workforce administration, employee engagement, payroll systems(Sage 300 advantageous).
  • Maintain and improve HR systems and manage HR BudgetCompetencies:
    • Assertiveness with good business acumen
    • Strong interpersonal skills with good negotiations and conflict management.
    • Good planning and organizing skills with attention to detail.
    • Flexible and innovative.
    • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
    • Change management skills
