Wembley College is a leading, English Medium, co-educational, independent school situated on a beautiful campus amongst the rolling hills of Greytown in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. An hour from Pietermaritzburg and an hour from Ballito makes for an ideal ‘country school’ within easy striking distance of a Central Business District and the warm KwaZulu Natal coast. Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • The candidate must be able to identify with and support the values of Wembley College.
  • Have at least 5 years teaching experience, ideally in a Cambridge High School.
  • Must have at least a B Ed degree and PGCE.
  • Must be able to provide guidance to HS subject teachers and coach new teachers.
  • Ensure that subject curricula are adequately covered and support best practices in curriculum and pedagogy, based on current research on teaching and learning.
  • Make recommendations on viability of subjects or introduction of new subjects.
  • Serve as the academic advisor to the Head of HS as it pertains to curriculum, academic programming, and personnel.
  • Identify skills gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as the director and coordinator of faculty professional development and faculty
  • growth and renewal in conjunction with the Cambridge Exams Officer.
  • In conjunction with the Subject Teacher implement improvements in the subject offering and extension.
  • Ensure the continued professional development of High School Teaching Staff.
  • Initiate and schedule required subject related Cambridge Training.
  • Secure venues for assessment.
  • Lead, develop, and manage meetings, task forces, and other programming as they pertain to the job.
  • Check that books are regularly marked, and comments included.
  • Check of Termly reports and comments along with the HOHS.
  • Check and assist with Teacher Planning and ensure that it corresponds with lessons.
  • Ensure teachers are in their classes teaching.
  • Ensure that there are textbook lists and it is kept up to date.
  • Keep up with curriculum changes and make sure teachers implement it.
  • Set up timetables for extra lessons, internal and trial exams, and invigilation.
  • Manage the Academic Extension and Support Programme.
  • Plan and assist with execution of excursions, tours and camps that are complementary to Academic offering.
  • Liaise with BE Head to ensure Academic Performance of BE Scholars.
  • Provide Scholar Career Counselling and act as advisory to HOHS.
  • University Liaison: provide scholar support for university entrance and guidance.
  • Have a clear understanding and acceptance of Independent School practice.
  • Have boundless enthusiasm and the ability to form warm and caring relationships with HS staff and scholars.
  • Have a desire to participate fully in the social, cultural, and extra mural programme.
  • Put children at the heart of everything they do with an energetic and inspirational approach to learning.
  • Share our vision of transforming learning to raise aspiration, secure an enjoyment and love of learning and develop a sense of pride in all that we do.
  • Be a creative thinker.
  • Be able to develop effective partnerships with staff, governors, parents, and the wider community to drive change and shape the future.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The intention to work according to the school’s ethos, specifications, and policies.
  • A willingness to work with and mentor interns.
  • A SACE registration.
  • Have a police and sexual offences clearance certificate.
  • Be in possession of a Public Driving Permit (PDP).
