Description

Hilton College is a leading independent boarding school for boys set on a beautiful nature reserve in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands. The school attracts students from all over South Africa as well as several internationally based families. Students may elect to pursue either the National Senior Certificate examinations through the IEB or follow an A level course provided by CIE. Hilton College implements a transformation and diversity policy, and all students and staff are required to support the ethos of the school.

The Position – A vacancy on the permanent, full-time staff has arisen in respect of a Mathematical Literacy Coordinator/Teacher. The successful applicant is expected to be able to take up the post from January 2024.

This is an opportunity for a talented, creative, enthusiastic and qualified Mathematical Literacy teacher. The position would report to the Director of Mathematics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Mathematics from Grade 8 to Grade 12.
  • Teach to the departmental programme of work and operate effectively within the time constraints available and contribute constructively to departmental meetings.
  • Set and mark assessments, and other duties, as may be required by the head of department.
  • Contribute to the support and extension of pupils requiring extra help in the afternoons. Due to the nature of the school, some responsibilities will fall on weekends and evenings.
  • Support the school’s wider mission of ‘a plan for every boy’, by being involved in the co-curricular life of the school, doing boarding house duties and taking a tutor group.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree with Mathematics as a specialisation.
  • Experience of working in an IEB and/or A Level (Cambridge) environment.
  • Must have a thorough and in-depth understanding of the Mathematics subject content up to matric level.
  • Must have substantial experience of matric teaching, and preferably be able to teach the core component of Further Studies up to matric level; being able to teach elective modules would be an added advantage.
  • The flexibility to adapt to an online environment, whenever necessary, is critical.
  • Registration with SACE is required. Police Clearance, Sexual Offenders and Child Protection clearances are all required to be submitted.
