St Peter’s College is an independent Anglican Diocesan school for boys and girls from Grade 8 to Grade 12. The school was founded in 1998 to meet the demand for a co-educational high school in northern Sandton. St Peter’s College offers an integrated and relevant South African high school education.

The aim of the College is to ensure that individual potential is achieved through exposure to a wide range of excellent academic, spiritual, sporting, creative, cultural and community activities. Responsibilities

Academic Requirements and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in education (B Ed) or similar
  • 10+ years IEB teaching experience
  • 5+ years management experience
  • A management qualification will be an added advantage
  • SACE Registration Certificate

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Solid knowledge of general administrative processes
  • Good understanding of organisational processes and procedures
  • Solid knowledge of relevant organisational policies
  • Solid understanding of relevant academic legislation
  • Sound knowledge of the current trends in education
  • Basic understanding of budget systems and controls
  • Knowledge of Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong leadership and inter-personal skills
  • Have vision, enthusiasm and the ability to inspire
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships
  • Able to plan, organise and prioitise
  • Commitment to promote a very high standard of teaching and learning
  • Understand, identify with and contribute to the Anglican ethos and values of the College

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Academic Strategy Development and Execution:

  • Develop, review, and monitor the academic strategy
  • Manage the academic timetable and review academic workloads
  • Communicate the academic strategy internally and externally
  • Set academic performance goals against the academic strategy

Teaching and Learning:

  • Ensure effective and efficient staffing
  • Monitor lesson preparation and examinations in accordance with the curriculum
  • Design and develop appropriate differentiation and standardisation projects that will enable common assessments and benchmarking
  • Ensure progressive and innovative teaching and learning methodologies and technologies are effectively implemented by academic staff
  • Oversee professional development and associated activities to improve academic performance and to support the development of teacher skills and innovation
    • Develop sustainable effective relationships with IEB education structures to provide leadership and guidance on educational matters
    • Assist in the selection of measurement tools for academic performance measurement
    • Monitor the implementation of performance improvement strategies

    Academic decision making:

    • Ensure that standardised assessments are developed and administered
    • Embed a goal-oriented approach to academic results
    • Develop, review and implement transition tracking tools for termly academic results
    • Manage and streamline academic reports
    • Ensure the development and implementation of an effective timetabling system

    Research and Analysis:

    • Create a dynamic and lifelong learning environment for all academic staff
    • Conduct analysis of key areas of academic performance by means of data collection and analysis
    • Pilot different academic projects and initiatives
    • Keep abreast of educational trends

    Quality Assurance:

    • Develop and implement a quality assurance framework to ensure effective academic performance
    • Ensure that the necessary evaluation and monitoring processes are in place to ensure academic compliance and improvement
    • Ensure that new teachers have mentors to ensure strong academic results
    • Advise HR on training and capacity development areas

    People Management/Support:

    • Support academic staff to ensure high performance aligned with strategy and goals
    • Give regular, actionable feedback to academic staff
    • Budget for all academic associated activities

    Stakeholder Relationship Management:

    • Strategically manage relationships with heads and academic staff
    • Ensure and enable clear and open communication that includes regular feedback and information sharing on academic matters
    • Refine and improve functioning of communication and information sharing processes
    • Ensure that the compliance requirements for academic work is known and understood by staff to ensure compliance
