Description
The clinical associate will implement Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Program at facility level in accordance with SA Department of Health provincial and national guidelines. S/he will provide clinical training, coaching and mentorship of clinicians in supported facilities and districts. S/he will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination of activities with those of the DoH, District Support Partners, and other funded activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and offer Medical Male Circumcision (MMC)
- Supervise all clinical and support staff members in the delivery of safe and high-quality high-volume VMMC services including the use of the correct VMMC surgical technique.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the team in terms of setting up goal/objectives that will influence VMMC key performance areas
- Developing policies and standard operating procedures that help the organization maintain compliance with company standards, health care laws and regulations including the use of the correct VMMC surgical technique
- Responsible for the clinical Continuous Quality Improvement CQI at facility level and be able to take initiatives, plan and monitor activity flow and outcomes accordingly
- Represent the organization in clinical activities with key stakeholders (Department of Health, private companies, etc.) in liaison with CQI Manager and Project Manager
- Assess and manage patients through all the VMMC "package of services" (e.g. management of STIs, counselling, suitability to undergo circumcision)
- Perform medical male circumcision procedures on suitable clients, in accordance with accepted protocols/models
- Clinical management of pre and post-operative patients
- Document all VMMC procedures done and / or clinical findings
- Follow up, monitor and manage patients post VMMC for AE's according to SA National and VMMC guidelines and protocols
- Ensure rapid reporting and response to any client adverse events
- Meet Department of Health and funder’s targets(Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Annually)
- Report according to standard VMMC M&E requirements
- Provision of Post Exposure Prophylaxis according to accepted guidelines
- Ensure that infection control policies are adhered to
- Being part of a roving team that performs VMMC in other settings
- Performing any other duties that will contribute to the efficient running of the VMMC clinic as may be assigned by management
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Clinical Associate (ClinA) trained in an accredited school / University (Clinical Associate Degree / Bachelor Clinical Medical Practice BCMP)
- Postgraduate diploma in Primary Health Care would be an added advantage
- Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Associate
- Certified VMMC Clinical training – Must have at least 2 years post qualification experience in VMMC
- Familiarity and experience with VMMC for HIV prevention required
- Experience with QA/quality improvement and supervision approaches preferred
- Experience in leading a clinical team required
- Experience with clinical training preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good telephonic communication skills and telephone etiquette - Good listening skills
