St John’s D.S.G., established in 1897 by the Society of St John the Divine, is situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It is a leading Anglican, independent, day and boarding school for 580 girls (Grades RR – 12), and is a member of the Independent Schools’ Association of Southern Africa. St John’s has a strong community ethos that gives it a distinct character.

Responsibilities

FOUNDATION PHASE or INTERMEDIATE PHASE

Effective from January, 2024

We are looking for Junior School interns with HEART. Our intern posts will suit applicants who are excited about learning how to equip primary school girls with skills to succeed in life. We require applicants who are willing to step out of their comfort zones in order to grow as teachers, and who will be committed to the Christian ethos of the school. Besides daily involvement in the classroom, interns will be expected to partake in extra duties relevant to Junior School teachers, such as extra-curricular activities, outings, overnight excursions, etc.

  • Will you be in your 3rd or 4th year of study in 2024?
  • Are you studying towards a Bachelor of Education or PGCE in 2024?
  • Are you specialising in the Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase?

If you answered “yes” to all three questions above, please proceed and submit an application to be considered for this position.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be open to being mentored and coached in order to develop pedagogy skills and competencies.
  • Have a high level of computer competency and be willing to learn new systems.
  • Learn how to integrate technology into the curriculum using various electronic media in the classroom.
  • Be willing to apply for SACE registration and clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register.
