Kearsney College is a leading independent boarding and day school for approximately 650 boys from Grades 8 to 12. The 125-acre estate is set in a country atmosphere on the edge of the Valley of a Thousand Hills, just outside Durban. Kearsney has an outstanding record of academic achievement in the IEB Matriculation Examinations and provides a dynamic sporting and cultural offering.

Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • studying towards a Bachelor of Education degree (GET / FET Phase) or has studied another degree and aims to obtain a PGCE;
  • preference will be given to those who wish to teach Mathematics, Physical Science, Engineering Graphics and Design, Accounting, Business Studies or Afrikaans;
  • experience in coaching school sports would be an advantage, with a preference for the following sporting codes: rugby, water polo, cricket and basketball;
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • committed to a career in education, a passion for boys’ education and prepared to be involved in all aspects of high school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • activities within the selected subject departments;
  • assisting/teaching in the classroom;
  • assisting with the Clubs and Cultural programme as well as electives;
  • performing duties in the Knowledge Centre; San and boarding houses.

The intern programme is a fixed-term one-year contract; candidates must re-apply annually. Accommodation is provided during the school term.
