Description
The Department of Metallurgy offers accredited engineering programmes in Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEng Tech), Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours (BEng Tech Hons) and Master's in engineering (Extraction and Physical Metallurgy) as well as PhD in Metallurgical Engineering. The candidate will be expected to teach, supervise students, and will be required to be involved with Research Groups in the Department.
Responsibilities:
- Teach and assess undergraduate students in Extractive Metallurgy disciplines
- Liaise with Industry so that the department can get research projects and funding for students.
- Supervise postgraduate students (Masters and Doctorate).
- Actively participate in one of the existing research groups and drive research activities.
- Conduct own research and publish articles in accredited journals.
- Be involved in community engagement.
- Conducting research, supervising projects, and laboratory work (at undergraduate and postgraduate level).
- Being involved in all the Departmental academic and administrative activities (e.g. ECSA file preparations, invigilation, participation in official meetings and gatherings).
Profile
A Masters or PhD in Extraction Metallurgy
- For a Lecturer: A Master's Degree
- For a Senior Lecturer: A PhD
Competencies:
- Relevant evidence of discipline advancement and / or community engagement projects.
- Fluent in English, teaching demonstration would be required.
- Evidence of strong industrial participation.
- Evidence of professional development.
- Evidence of relevant research capacity.
Recommendations:
- Registration with a local engineering professional body (e.g. ECSA).
- Previous lecturing experience.
- A minimum of three years industrial experience.
- International Publications.
