Description

The WSU Professor is an academic with attributes as defined by the policy on academic appointments and promotions, with duties in teaching and learning, research and community engagement. The Professor is a prominent research leader with an outstanding track record and is expected to be supervising research/higher level post-graduate students.

The WSU Associate Professor is responsible for teaching and learning, research and community engagement and is a promising research leader who is expected to be supervising research students, mostly at post-graduate level.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PHD/Doctorate qualification in one of the following relevant Technology subjects: namely; Civil Technology; Electrical Technology; Mechanical Technology; Engineering Graphics and Design; and Curriculum studies in these subjects.
  • Undergraduate degree majoring in the above mentioned Technology Subjects will be an added advantage.
  • Teaching qualification is a requirement.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years university lecturing experience.
  • Proven track record in research (including publications in accredited journals) and community engagement.
  • Proven track record of supervising postgraduate students at Masters and/or Doctoral level.

Key Performance Areas

  • Lecture undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Plan and undertake research within niche areas of the department.
  • Conduct supervision of postgraduate research projects.
  • Participate actively in curriculum development.
  • Promote research and community partnership within the department.
  • Participate actively in departmental and faculty committee duties.
  • Assist the department in administrative responsibilities.
  • Quality Assurance.
  • University service.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Able to conduct community engagement that are in line with the focus area of the department.
