Description

Purpose:

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, providing a dynamic range of products and services is seeking a Production Manager who will manage production activities at the manufacturing area to manage manufacturing Shift Leaders to achieve planned production targets regarding quality, safety, speed, cost and people, ensure all GMP and quality management systems are followed as per those relevant SOP’s which are applicable to their department including timeous and accurate completion of all documentation

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Job Outputs:

  • Ensuring that products are produced and stored according to the appropriate documentation to approve the instructions relating to production operations and ensure their strict implementation
  • Ensuring that the production records are evaluated and signed by an authorized person before they are sent to the quality control department
  • Checking the maintenance of their department, premises and equipment
  • Ensuring that the appropriate validations are done
  • Ensuring that the required initial and continuing training of their department personnel is carried out and adapted according to needs

 

Speed

  • Ensuring that daily and weekly production targets are met
  • Improving and maintaining machine availability
  • Improving productivity through implementation and maintaining LEAN manufacturing principles
  • Ensuring that adequate resources are available to manufacture products regarding equipment, supplies and labour
  • Conducting continuous reviews and following up on projects to ensure the completion of assigned work

 

Quality

  • Assuming responsibility
  • Taking necessary action to eliminate delays ensuring adherence to production and shipping schedules, including prevention of deviations
  • Maintaining compliance with company policies, cGMP’s, safety standards and good housekeeping practices ensuring no product recalls
  • Investigating and taking appropriate action related to process variations
  • Ensuring that manufacturing standards are met
  • Keeping scrap and losses at a minimum
  • Adhering to regulatory compliance
  • Developing information and compiling reports concerning scheduling, production goals, equipment and maintenance problems as well as other studies or reports as requested

 

Cost

  • Taking necessary actions to manage production costs and improve profitability
  • Operating within and meeting the budget requirements
  • Maintaining budgeted or better recovery to expense ration
  • Working in a team environment with other department management to co-ordinate a production schedule to achieve required deadlines, objectives and budgets

 

People and Communication

  • Managing and co-ordinating activities and performance of assigned staff to ensure the achievement of department OEE objectives and performance goals
  • Developing department employees through orientation, training, establishment of objectives, communication of rules and policies while building employee morale and motivation
  • Evaluating performance and production of staff, maintaining records of performance
  • Improving employee attendance at a target of 98%
  • Providing leadership in the implementation of mini business units intervention

 

Performance Management

  • Advising department management on matters relating to daily operations and making recommendations for improvements when feasible
  • Setting and evaluating KPI’s for department and team members
  • Auditing own performance and recommending own objectives and standards of performance
  • Ensuring and maintaining high levels of performance
  • Reviewing and ensuring that investigations are done effectively and in a timely manner
  • Providing positive and motivating examples for employees

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications:

  • CIPS/SAPICS or
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Production Management
  • Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Pharmacy or equivalent

 

Experience:

  • 5 to 6 years’ management experience in the manufacturing and packaging environment
  • Formal training or experience in a recognized Quality Management Systems or exposure in a GMP environment
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Proven communication and employee relations skills required
  • Excellent computer skills
  • LEAN or Six-Sigma background would be advantageous
