Duties & Responsibilities

Pit Grade Control Production Geologist: REF PGCPG001

Purpose of Role:

The Pit Grade Control Production Geologist (PGCPG) is responsible for all pit mining geology related activities with special focus on delivery of good-reliable-timely geology inputs into mining practices, pit quality-ore and grade control management leadership implementation to achieve Tharisa Minerals Mining Business Goals requirements.

 

Core Work Outputs:

Adhere to all mine legal regulations, standard operating procedure (SOP’s) and report on all sub-standard conditions; Preparation of geological operational and capital budgeting; Control, manage and lead implementation of pit reverse circulation (RC) drilling for grade control, including all geological data processing and interpretation; Ensure good geology inputs onto mining, and optimize implementation of quality-ore and grade control mining-practices from the pit; Destination control of pit run-of-mine (RoM) material to RoM-pad stockpiles; Ore stockpiles management; Work jointly with mine-planners to deliver quality-ore digging plans; geological mapping and efficient ore-mining; Management leadership of shift-team Ore Quality Controller’s; Establish and monitoring execution of approved crusher plants feed grade, and stability thereof; Continuous liaison with Plants Manager’s on ore-types and grade plants delivered; Grade reconciliation process and continuous improvement strategies on gaps identified. Leadership and custodian of grade control models and mining geology best practices; Writing of miningeology reports daily, weekly and monthly as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12/ NQF Level 4, Bachelor of Science with Honours Degree in Geology, 7 years of mining experience of which 4 years as pit grade control production geologist; Proven Grade Control evaluation and modelling skills; Registered SACNASP; Driver’s license code 8; Bushveld Complex Geology, Minex, DESWIK experience, advantageous.

 

Inherent Requirements:

Must be medically fit; Ability to translate/communicate geology into mining practices; Strong analytical skills, attention to details and team player; Must be prepared to work fulltime shift-work and prepared to work odd-shifts; Candidates will be required to undergo Psycho metric assessments.
