My client in the mining industry is looking for a Mining Engineer to join their team in Cullinan.

Reporting to the Lead: Mining, this role will be responsible for providing specialised Mining Engineering expertise, direction and support the Operational Mining Functions in accordance with relevant processes, standards, and performance targets. Provide technical guidance, co-ordinate and execute defined Mining Engineering activities across the Operations to ensure optimum improvement in operational Mining efficiency in accordance with the Company’s business objectives and sound Mining practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the Mining discipline strategy, systems and programs and provide assurance to the Lead: Mining on execution.
  • Implement and review systems and controls in accordance to mining best practice (new standards, processes and methodologies) to ensure the effective and efficient utilisation of mining resources aligned across operations.
  • Implement mining performance monitoring systems and visits operations to ensure alignment of mining related procedures, mining best practice (new standards, processes and methodologies), reserve optimisation, standardisation and continuous improvement across operations.
  • Identify, evaluate, analyse, monitor and report to the Lead Mining on potential business initiatives, mining technologies, equipment, machinery and/or software that could benefit the Company's bottom line.
  • Assist the Lead Mining with drafting and managing budget for Group Mining Function in accordance to the Company financial principles, practices, policies and procedures.
  • Assist Lead Mining by providing input and oversight to the operation's budget (Mining).
  • Identify and implement potential cost saving and management strategies and initiatives for the Mining Operations.
  • Provide support and technical assistance to all the Operational Mining Functions in conducting mine designs, concept and feasibility studies, mine scheduling, LOM and business plans, and allocation of resources (people, equipment, machinery etc.) to ensure alignment between Operations.
  • Provide expert Mining discipline advice to the Operations on Industry Best Practice and keep abreast of latest developments in area of expertise.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders on Mining related matters, and support operations on Mining related engagement, working within interdepartmental engagement.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the Group and

Operational Mining Functions.

  • Implement Mining programs, standards, controls, guidelines and schedules across the Operations.
  • Identify deviations to standards through appropriate work processes.
  • Analyse, interpret and report to the Lead Mining on operational and production data, trends and variances to create awareness on potential opportunities / risks.
  • Participate in a sustainable process to identify, assess and rank Mining risk as these relate to the business and operations, in order to promote a Mining and risk-aware culture, ensure that any potential impact is understood, and facilitate effective decision making, Mining risk mitigation and provide this as input into the ERM program.
  • Implement Mining risk mitigations plans and controls for the Group Mining Function.
  • Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company Safety Vision and Values.
  • Model behaviour that is consistent with the Company values and Code of Ethical Conduct.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a mine production environment - massive mining (please clearly indicate on CV)
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Mine Managers Certificate of Competence                            .
  • Computer Literacy and Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced)
  • Valid driver's license

Technical Competencies:

  • Conduct a variance analysis and determine the effect thereof.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding and knowledge of ore deposits, strata control principles and practices.
  • Convert manpower requirements, tonnage requirements, equipment/machinery availability, back to the operation plan.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mineral processing and economics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill of all applicable environmental policies, procedures, legislative requirements, principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge with regard to applicable mining legislative requirements
