A position has become available for a Manager-Cashbook and Treasury to join our dynamic team.

Position Overview

Full end to end management of reporting; processing; optimisation; control of cashbook and treasury functions. The role encompasses the liquidity, working capital and funds management of the business.

Duties & Responsibilities

People and Relationships

  • Manage the entire cashbook and treasury function ensuring that the department evolves to become a state-of-the-art function.
  • Ensure that the team receives adequate training and development on aspects that impact their performance whilst enabling a digital journey
  • Implement a robust performance management and talent development system.
  • Drive compliance of value adding internal controls and behaviours across the organisation and at all levels
  • Sphere head efforts to train the teams in branches and across the company to ensure that internal controls around cash and expense management are adhered to
  • Ensure that all roles have backup
  • Control access to the banking systems

External Relationships

  • Ensure compliance to taxation and BEE legislation when making payments to suppliers
  • Manage operational banking relationship, and optimise efficiencies across banking platforms, through automation, consolidation and fee negotiation
  • Laisse with banking counterparts and ensure administrative banking matters are always up to date
  • Manage Cash In Transit (CIT) relationship and ensure optimal process design in place to ensure operational efficiencies are managed
  • Ensure regular branch visits by the cashbook and treasury team to enable improvement discussions
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and all other stakeholders

Analysis​​​​​

  • Design and manage process to analytically review sales vs cash banked to ensure no revenue leakages
  • Design and manage sales process to ensure optimal recording of revenue
  • Critically review banking reconciliation process and ensure that all reconciling items are managed on time
  • Analyse and evaluate performance ratios such as liquidity, gearing, debt to equity, solvency etc

Treasury Management

  • Assist in designing a fit for purpose cash book function to optimise current operational environment
  • Preparation of banking, cash and treasury management reports that enable robust decision making at all levels
  • Manage the usage of funds received such as OD facilities, loans, shareholder injections, receipts from sales or disposals
  • Ensure optimal usage of organisational funds
  • Monitoring of current and projected cash inflows and outflows to ensure that there is sufficient cash to fund company operations as well as to ensure that excess cash is properly invested, and optimum funds usage
  • Reduce the overall cost of funds, and mitigate operational and financial risk
  • Strict expense monitoring across the entire organisation and ensuring that key suppliers are paid timely
  • Effective management of funds from foreign customers

Automation and Internal Controls

  • Digitalise cash book and petty cash function and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure relevant data is integrated into data warehouse environment for reporting
  • Enable exception-based reporting that monitors in real time, any suspicious transactions
  • Implement control environment that automatically downloads electronic cash records, auto match transactions, and remove reliance on manual intervention to update general ledger transactions
  • Work closely with internal risk team to identify high priority investigations, based on continued risks identified through implemented procedures
  • Cashbook process improvements including project management
  • Develop and implement financial models; dashboards and scorecards
  • Revise and implement policies and procedures when the need arises and ensure compliance
  • Ensure that all process flows are updated
  • Together with management and internal audit; develop and implement a solid control environment
  • Develop and implement self - testing scripts as part of quality control
  • To design and implement as well as continuously monitor a robust internal controls environment across the organisation taking into account risks that are inherent within the business.

Development Processing and Reporting

  • Enable through the supervisors, firm control of daily banking processing; variance analysis and timely resolution
  • Manage full end to end bank reconciliation functions
  • Implement a process to reduce variances on an ongoing basis by finding solutions for root causes of the variances
  • Understand and manage relevant accounting procedures relating to cashbook.
  • Preparation/Review of journals; recons and analyses of relevant costs and financial information

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Prior cashbook and treasury experience not a requirement but appreciation of what cashbook and treasury entails
  • 10 years plus experience in finance and accounting field (5 of which at manager level)
  • management of team/direct reports
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Accounting system experience
  • Financial acumen
  • Accounting professional qualification; CA (SA), ACCA, CIMA etc
  • Superior Level of service delivery
  • Accuracy & Attention to detail
  • Finance Business partnering/ Management Accounting attitude
  • Communication skills.
