Description
To ensure that the company functions in a legally compliant manner while meeting its business goals. Responsible for developing compliance programs, reviewing company policies and legal documents, and advising management on possible risks as well as ensuring that all the necessary protocols are in place for a sound legal compliance framework.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Compliance
- To develop a legal and effective compliance programme
- To create sound internal legal controls and monitor adherence to them
- To draft and revise company policies and procedures
- Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses and gaps.
- Evaluate business activities in order to assess compliance risk
- Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation
- Educate and train employees on legal compliance and regulations
- Advise and provide legal advice to the organization and its employees
- Legal Assistance
- Read and review SLAs, tenders and other legal documents in order to highlight and assess potential risks and to provide feedback on those risks.
- Ensure that all SLAs, account applications and any other documents are correctly completed, signed and submitted to the company’s external attorneys for document retention purposes.
- Provide support and advice to the HR & Legal director on any legal matters.
- To monitor and stay on top of matters that have been referred to the company’s attorneys.
- To monitor and keep track of all spending on legal matters and to avoid referring matters to the company’s attorneys as far as it is practically possible without exposing the company to unnecessary risk.
- Ensuring that board resolutions are signed and that records are kept of all board resolutions
- Assisting with debt collection
- Compiling legal information for board reports
3. Contracts
- Drafting legal agreements and necessary legal documents
- Examination of the terms and conditions of agreements from a legal perspective
- Ensuring all contracts are correctly signed and completed
- Ensuring that all supplier agreements are correctly signed and completed
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Minimum LLB/ BCOM Law qualification. Preferably admitted as an attorney with some court experience.
- Minimum 5 years working experience in a similar role with detailed knowledge of contract law.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office is essential
- Valid driver’s License and own reliable transport essential
