Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching and research, also supervision of final year projects
- Supervision of postgraduate students at Honours level
- Co-supervision of Masters students at Lecturer level;
- Supervision of Masters & Doctoral students at Senior Lecturer level
- Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head of Department
- Participation in the department’s strategic initiatives to teaching, research and community engagement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A BEng/BSc Eng degree from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington accord or is recognised by ECSA to be equivalent;
- A Masters’ degree in Industrial Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
- Publications in accredited journals or conferences or proof of submission
- Appropriate working experience either in academia and/or industry.
Senior Lecturer:
- Same as for Lecturer, plus;
- Doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent qualification for a Senior Lecturer
- Expertise and research experience in one or more of the specialist areas of the research groups in the Department;
- A proven research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals;
- At least two years tertiary education experience or 2 years related industry experience;
- A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience, and supervision of Masters.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Appropriate language and communication skills;
- Good time management skills;
- Appropriate teaching and research skills.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Preference will be given to candidates with the specialization in more than one of the following areas: Business Engineering/Supply Chain Engineering/Quality Management;
- Registered PrEng with ECSA;
- Experience in supervising Masters students.
SALARY DETAILS
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
