The Department of Visual Art is part of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture on the Bunting Road Campus of the University of Johannesburg. The Department has a long and proud history of producing artists and academics who have recognised national / international profiles and who have contributed greatly to the diverse visual industries of South Africa.  We are looking for an energetic and vibrant specialist in Printmaking and New Media Studies to join our team of educators in the Visual Art Department as a Lecturer in Printmaking and Digital Media.

Responsibilities:  

 

  • Teaching all aspects of traditional and alternative printmaking methods and techniques in the undergraduate Printmaking modules in the Department.
  • Teaching Photography, applied-Photography and Digital Photography to undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Supervise/co-supervise Masters-level students in dissertation writing and/or practical portfolio development - compatible with own research areas.
  • Co-ordinate and provide academic leadership of the New Media Studies programme, including responsibility for developing professional-practice and e-learning standards and resources,
  • Coordinate three modules of the PGCE programme in association with the Faculty of Education
  • Provide academic support with Honours-level, Work-Integrated-Learning requirements
  • Assist with Honours-level academic theory support and supervision when required.
  • Actively contribute to the Department's research/artistic/curatorial profile through publications and external representation.
  • Contribute to Departmental administration responsibilities
  • Participate in the Masters Seminars / Critique programmes.
  • Present conference papers and
  • Write research articles for publication
  • Positively contribute to the Department's national / international standing and reputation
Profile
  • A Master's degree in Fine / Visual Art
  • A minimum of five years lecturing / teaching experience at university level
  • Teaching of all forms of Printmaking is a requirement
  • Teaching of Photography is a requirement
  • Knowledge and competencies in Digital Media
  • Evidence of research and publications.

Recommendations:

  • A track record of post-graduate research supervision and publication in the relevant field
  • Proven record of engagement with the scholarship of teaching, e.g. teaching evaluation or relevant portfolio.
  • Innovative teaching techniques incorporating technology.
  • Must have an active artmaking / exhibitions profile and/or Curatorial practice
  • Ability to develop new undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
