A leading tertiary institution is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join their team as an Education Lecturer.

Teaching on full time programmes and associated teaching and scholarly activities; teaching and learning (T&L) resource to the campus and subject matter expert (SME) to institute; Championing a programme on which they teach and integrated support for students.

LECTURING

• Lecture on programmes across various modes of delivery where relevant.
• Lecture preparation, delivery and all related teaching and assessment activities.
• Marking of assessments and feedback to students in subjects lectured.
• Development of ICE activities, manuals, exam scripts and marking memos where required.
• May be required to internally moderate assessments scripts that fall within the respective subject fields, where necessary across sites of delivery.
• Development of academic material and assessments on programmes within the School by acting as developer, module leader, moderator or head of programme for the Central Academic Team (CAT).

LECTURER DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT

• Support function to T&L on campus and to the institution.
• Work with Independent Contractors on their programme/s to build campus knowledge of industry trends and graduate placement.
• Conducting peer reviews in programme of speciality.
• Brand resource SME to the institution on modules and programme of expertise.
• Support the adoption of teaching and learning strategies and approaches.
• Assisting in any required research related to T&L.
• Involvement in lecturer orientation / briefing / forum.
• Involvement in student orientation  and Programme Info day.
• Act as a panel member in the selection and recruitment process of Independent Contractors.
• Mentoring of new lecturers.

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT

• Championing/leading and managing academic development and support for a specific programme and its students.
• Track individual student academic performance across the programme.
• Track student enrolment and success rates and work with The Teaching & Learning Specialist to put the necessary interventions in place to reduce drop out rates and increase success and completion rates.
• Assist where required with the experential learning of students in their programme.
• Conduct student support interventions where required.
• Appropriate academic administration as required (related to student development and support).

Bachelors Degree PLUS Postgraduate Diploma/ Bachelors Honours Degree in Education (PGCE or B.Ed). Masters and Doctorate Degrees may be needed for certain vacancies.Higher postgraduate qualification (MEd; MA; Mphil; PhD) preferable. Relevant professional membership if applicable (e.g. SAICA, Law Society, SACE etc.)

Minimum of 5 years Teaching and Learning experience (preferably in teaching environment)

• Experience in the use of technology to enhance learning is an added advantage

A market related salary is offered based on skills and experience
