Description
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to Electrical Department Manager.
Purpose of position: Close support of the Department Manager and the pursuing of assignments and projects within the assigned Plant Area. The post also calls for involvement in plant investigation and optimizing during normal operating periods.
Establish & maintain a safe work environment
Be fully conversant with and adhere to general and Plant Safety Regulations and codes
Participate in electrical plant enhancement projects from investigation to final implementation, and assume responsibility for the overall project where this required
Ensure for new projects, that drawings, data books and training material are provided and fully implemented prior to start-up of the project.
Assume responsibility for cost control and accurate forecasting of electrical expenditure and project budgets
Coordinate investigations into the root cause analysis of plant failures, development of solutions and provide reports and advice thereon to the Maintenance Manager
Carry out investigations of defects, plant performance problems or capacity related shortfalls, commission tests where required and provide recommendations in consultation with the Maintenance Manager.
Assist with the review and final approval of work scope, adjudication of contracts, contract content, and final acceptance of electrical and general overhaul contracts
Prioritize projects and deploy resources necessary to achieve timely completion
Provide advice for the design and implementation of electrical operating procedures for all plant and equipment
Ensure maximum and accurate utilization of the IT system to support the entire function
Assist the relevant Managers in developing work scopes for planned and forced outages.
Maximize plant availability
Ensure coordination, liaison, and daily communication with relevant Managers to provide a seamless and professional service to all stakeholders
Constructively participate and contribute to the annual budgeting process
Provide a written monthly report to identified managers, addressing past progress, current status and future projects. Ensure inclusion of budgetary impacts
Actively participate in the preparation, construction implementation and reporting of the company’s Annual Operating Plan.
Actively participate and encourage good housekeeping, teamwork and upholding of superior standards
Be flexible & willing to learn and assist in all aspects of operations & maintenance
Develop an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of Power Plant operation and the generation of electricity
Qualified Electrician – Minimum Matric or technical equivalent plus Trade Test
PC Skills – Outlook, MS Word, Excel, MS Project
Fault finding
Use of Test Equipment (including High Voltage)
Testing of protection circuitry and relay setup
Must be able to read electrical circuit diagrams
