Voltex is looking to employ a Copper Supervisor for their MV/LV division. This incumbent will be reporting to Senior Management and Directors of the division.

The position of the Copper Supervisor consists of planning, organizing, leading and taking control of your working environment and the coordination of activities in the copper manufacturing and assembly department. The Copper Supervisor must provide appropriate and suitable copper for projects and the production team timeously as to meet production. The role of the Copper Supervisor means that you are accountable in ensuring all your actions are in accordance with company policies, quality and standards, relevant codes and the requirements of your position.

Duties & Responsibilities

The key tasks & responsibilities for this position are to:

 

• Design schematic drawings for copper works

• Provide support to all departments in terms of copper designs, drawings, blueprints, and conceptual drawings

• Implementing continuous development in copper designs and improvements to current designs

• Liaise with suppliers on dimensions of parts, items, materials, and equipment

• Review work packs and jobs to understand specifications, requirements, and job particulars

• Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines

• Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints or grievances and enforce safety and sanitation regulations

• Confer with other supervisors to coordinate and activities within or between departments

• Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints and production/construction problems

• Plan, organise and direct activities concerned within the production/mechanical and maintenance of structures, equipment and systems

• Carry out stock orders, work packs, design, pricing and order processing of various projects. NCR’s and internal auditing, research and development of new innovative ways to improve products, estimating duties, CNC training and assistance and company designs. Provide preliminary designs and cost estimates for material and services

• Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather or emergencies affecting projects and or works

• Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees. Or assign employees to experienced workers for training as well as directing and coordinating the activities of employees engaged in the production and construction works, such as artisans and semi-skilled assistants etc.

• To have a ‘hands-on’ transfer of skills and training to employees in job duties and company policy as directed by the company or arrange for training to be provided

• Carry out any physical work (on the tools) required and or to assist employees in meeting target deadlines, project time frames and or staff shortages

• Implement proper procedures, correcting errors or problems and ensuring company policies are adhered to as well as resolving customer complaints and to answer customer questions regarding policies and procedures

• Provide respective employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex mechanical problems and resolving escalated complaints or disputes

• Inspect materials, products or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions, and interpret specifications, job orders and company policies and procedures for workers as well as carrying out site repairs

• To observe work and monitor to ensure work conducted conforms to production/construction standards

• Plan and establish work schedules, assignments and production/construction sequences to meet production/construction goals

• Read and analyse charts, work orders, schedules and other orders records and reports to determine work requirements and to evaluate current production/construction estimates and outputs

• Review of copper department quality control. Completion of paperwork, carrying out inspections and reviews of other work to ensure that it is manufactured to company standards

• Inspect electrical and mechanical systems, equipment and components to identify issues, hazards and defects and the need for adjustment, repair and ensure compliance with codes

• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment and delays within mechanical design and mechanical operations

• Maintain knowledge of your industry and ensure constant growth of such knowledge as well as sharing such knowledge of others for the benefit and efficiency of the company

• Perform business management duties such as ensuring all relevant paperwork is up to date, maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment etc

• Provide assistance during emergencies when required (e.g. being on standby 24/7 to assist whether afterhours or on weekends)

• Meeting target deadlines and carry out all tasks instructed competently

• Maintenance checks, cleaning and upkeep of vehicles and tools as well as ensuring clean and maintained work areas

• You are expected to carry out any other reasonable tasks asked of you

Desired Experience & Qualification

The key educational requirements and experience for this position would be:

 

• A trade qualification or equivalent

• Computer literacy

• A valid driver’s license

• Ability to manage one’s own time and the time of others, to give your full attention to what other people are saying and to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses in alternative solutions

• Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work, and to identify the best people for the job

• To be fit, healthy, sober-minded and accountable

• You are required to be on standby and work long hours when required and to assist accordingly
