Description

It is the primary objective of the Centre for Student Counselling and Development to be a centre that is focused on student wellness and development. The CSCD consists of five units and delivers an autonomous, professional, client centred service that focuses on support and development. This position is a 5/8 position (five hours per weekday) and is based at the Unit for Psychotherapeutic and Support Services (UPSS) on Tygerberg Campus. Please note that the required working hours may fall outside of the normal SU working hours.

 

Duties:

  • Rendering psychological therapy services to students, mainly individually but also in groups;
  • Developing and presenting workshops that promote a healthy lifestyle amongst students;
  • Participating in the 24-hour crisis service of the CSCD.

 

Requirements:

  • Registration (at least two years) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist;
  • Experience in providing psychotherapeutic services to young adults, specifically also with relation to crisis services;
  • A proven ability to work independently with psychopathology;
  • Excellent communication and language skills in English as well as one of the other official language within South Africa;
  • Computer skills in the MS-Office environment.

 

Recommendations:

  • Specific experience in the duties as indicated above;
  • Experience in multidisciplinary cooperation with medical practitioners and other health professionals within the health sciences;
  • Training in short-term psychotherapeutic modalities;
  • Training in presenting therapy groups;
  • Experience in crisis service provision in a psychological context;
  • Experience of rendering psychological services within a Higher Education environment;
  • Experience in developing and presenting workshops and lectures on topics related to personal development and self-management;
  • Competence in an additional African language.
