Description
A Private tertiary education company based in Durban, with an established national footprint with over 18,000 students is looking for a Newly Qualified CA (SA) candidate to fill the position of Assistant Group Financial Manager.
The incumbent of this position will be based in Durban, KwaZulu – Natal and will be responsible to assist witht the full financial function, including the local payroll. The role will report to the Financial Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
To support the Chief Financial Officer and the Group Financial Manager, by providing timeous, relevant and reliable information so that sound business decisions can be made to ensure that the institution functions without any hindrance or disruptions. This responsibility includes:
- Providing the overall leadership of the management accounts, fixed asset/cost controller, commercial property manager, fleet management and the accommodation and services manager to ensure that the monthly management accounts and other meaningful reports are produced timeously for Board purposes
- To produce clear budgetary information for future planning, both short term and long term, to ensure that the institution is aware of the financial implications before any decision is made.
- To ensure that financial practices and reports are in line with statutory regulations and legislations
- Financial conduct is within/encompasses the institutions policies and procedures and strategic business plan
- Ensure effective accountability to the Chief Financial Officer for proper management and implementation of activities in finance within the Institution
- Provide leadership and supervisory oversight to the Finance and General Administration Departments, which currently include Finance, Human Resources, Administration, Operations and Information Communication and Technology
- Ensure implementation of policies and strategies that support the realization of departmental and divisional objectives and the Institution’s overall mission
- Implement procurement, financial control, human resource and administrative policies and procedures to ensure effective performance and delivery of services and cause revisions of such policies and procedures as often as may be necessary
- Develop appropriate procedures and ensure compliance to all statutory and legal requirements in general administration and finance within the Institution
- Coordinate the design, implementation, revision and evaluation of the Institutions strategic plan
- Operates and independently takes full accountability for leading the processes in ensuring that all financial, statutory requirements, regulatory requirements and compliance for the institution are met
- Analysis and interpretation of financial information including balance sheet reconciliations, cost and benchmarking implications/results
- Maintain day to day financial control of the national operations
- Responsible for working capital management – negotiating with suppliers for extended terms and ensuring that suppliers are paid according to terms to maximize cash flow
- Assist in preparation of management accounts to be presented to the board of directors, including detailed reviews of the monthly management accounts and managing the finance department in so as to achieve the aforementioned deadline
- Managing cash flow and predicting future trends
- Review monthly and annual forecasts
- Liaising with external auditors to ensure that all audit queries are resolved before the Management Report is issued
- Review of the annual audit pack for onward submission to the auditors
- Responsible for carrying out feasibility studies for different product offerings and establish the viability thereof
- Managing the Finance Department and ensuring that performance management appraisals are completed timeously
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Newly qualified CA(SA) who completed Articles in 2019, with a track record of delivering high quality deliverables and meeting deadlines
- Proficient user in Excel
- Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
- A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
- An analytical mind
- Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships
- Commercial and business awareness
- Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
- A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
- Ability to stick to time constraints
