South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated person to develop, manage, and implement business plans, strategies, policies, and procedures for the SANBI Libraries, to analyse, develop, and manage the use of appropriate new technologies to deliver information in a changing digital environment, to develop and manage all services and co-operate with key stakeholders to ensure for the delivery of appropriate and effective information services.

This position requires a degree in Information Sciences, Archives and Records Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Information Sciences, Archives and Records Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years of work experience in the relevant field, 3 of which should be in supervisory position

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated person to develop, manage, and implement business plans, strategies, policies, and procedures for the SANBI Libraries, to analyse, develop, and manage the use of appropriate new technologies to deliver information in a changing digital environment, to develop and manage all services and co-operate with key stakeholders to ensure for the delivery of appropriate and effective information services.

This position requires a degree in Information Sciences, Archives and Records Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: in-depth understanding of research libraries; knowledge about legislation pertaining to libraries; knowledge on the management of library systems; project management knowledge and skills; ability to conduct reference interviews and analysing the information needs; excellent communication skills and outstanding customer service ethics; knowledge of human resources, procurement, and financial management policies, a good working knowledge of libraries metadata standards; and a high level of computer literacy with sound knowledge of library databases.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Provide input towards strategy development and implementation;
  • Manage library services and provision of information and training;
  • Manage, supervise and lead team member;
  • Execute financial management responsibilities; and
  • Provide corporate services and communication.
