My client in the electrical industry is looking for an Area Sales Rep to join their team in the Northern Cape. The successful applicant will be responsible for the Kathu / Postmasburg region.

Applicants residing in the area will be given preference.

The main purpose of the role is to:

• Ensure that the company is registered as a local supplier on all vendor lists of the mining and industrial clients in the Postmasburg / Kathu (Northern Cape) local area
• Actively promote the sale of company services to new and existing customers
• Maximise the number of opportunities for the company to tender on EC&I projects
• Represent the company as a local supplier of electrical goods and services in the Northern Cape
• Support other company product divisions and distributors to improve sales of company products in the area

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Generate new business from new and existing customers
• Visit assigned customers according to planned calling schedules and cold calling on new customers
• Establish and maintain strong customer relationships with existing and new customers
• Provide high levels of service ensuring customer satisfaction
• Meet with customers to clarify enquiry specifications
• Answer customer technical and commercial queries, supporting the Proposals area
• Develop leads on other company products, interacting with the respective Sales areas on handover and support
• Attend regular Sales and Project meetings
• Facilitate new accounts applications with the Debtors & Creditors area

Reports:

• Report leads, tenders and quoting opportunities to the Proposals Manager
• Submit weekly records of client meetings
• Maintain and update customer data base, in conjunction with the Proposals area
• Obtain information on competitor’s products and services, pricing policies and business strategies, reporting finding to the relevant Sales areas
• Submit monthly expenses report, including fuel, credit card statements and slips

REQUIREMENTS:

• Matric with English
• A recognised technical qualification (minimum Electrical Trade), preferably tertiary (National Certificate, B. Tech, B.Sc. or similar)
• At least 10 years electrical working experience with a construction background
• Computer literacy – good general computer knowledge and experience in Windows, MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
• A legal driver’s licence.
• Must have lived in the Northern Cape (Kathu or surrounding areas) for a minimum of 5 years
• Committed to establishing and developing close business relationships with potential clients, afterhours when necessary
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language, as well as Afrikaans.
• Subject to work beyond normal working hours, evenings, weekends and holidays should the need arise
• Position will require out of town travel
