Description

A leading tertiary institution is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual individual to join their team as an Academic Research Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing and managing the research capacity and skills of academic staff to achieve the targeted research outputs of the institution.

 

PROMOTE AND BUILD A CULTURE OF SCHOLARSHIP AND EMBED THE PRACTICE OF RESEARCH:

  • Develop, implement, promote and track an annual research development plan and projects for academic staff across 5 campuses, including provision of appropriate resources and interventions. This is done in context of the promotion and implementation of the Research Capacity Building Plan.
  • Develop a culture of scholarship and build and track the research capacity of academic
  • staff to ensure that they achieve targeted individual research output unit/s.
  • Actively support academic staff who are studying postgraduate qualifications at Master's and Doctoral level.
  • Monitor and report on the brand’s compliance with the Academic Conditions of Service policy, including training academic staff on the provisions and policy guidelines.
  • Participate in key governance structures and committees as may be required from time to time.

 

OWN RESEARCH OUTPUT:

  • Contribute to research output by achieving own annual research output unit/s target.

 

LECTURING AND/OR SUPERVISION:

  • Lecture a postgraduate research module per year or supervise a team of postgraduate students.

 

OTHER:

  • Collate and provide the information due for the monthly cumulative progress reports.
  • Assist with research support for new qualification submissions.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education:

  • Doctoral Degree / PhD (NQF Level 10) and a publication record is preferable.
  • A Master's degree is the minimum requirement (such candidates must have published and be registered for Doctoral Studies - NQF10).

 

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in the tertiary education sector and in research training and development.
  • Must have a research interest and experience in brand management, brand communication or design as well as experience of postgraduate student supervision.

  • Strong planning, project and time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills – mentoring and coaching, written and verbal.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Package & Remuneration
