Description
Our Client, one of the fastest growing cosmetic companies in South Africa, urgently seeks a dynamic, driven/motivated, well rounded cosmetic chemist to join their team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Main job function
Oversee daily production to ensure SOPs are being followed and Quality Control Practices are adhered to
Supports production regarding the quality control of raw materials, bulk, WIP, and finished goods
Undertakes all required tests on relevant samples in accordance with Company and federal specifications
Carries out relevant preparation, titration, calibration and validation on reagents and/or equipment where appropriate
Good laboratory skills with demonstrated record of excellence in quantitative analysis
Works in compliance with GMP requirements
Experienced with Root Cause Analysis, ability to troubleshoot out-of-specification results, and perform OOS investigations
Capable of trouble-shooting issues on analytical equipment
Ability to work independently and possesses leadership qualities
May be asked to lead various quality initiatives or projects
Develop new and/or improved product formulas, packages or manufacturing procedures in conjunction with guidelines established by the Marketing and Sales Departments
Work with Marketing, R & D, Sales and other cross-functional teams to support new product development and customer projects
Works directly with Purchasing and Quality Control to evaluate new ingredients, ingredients out of specification, and alternate vendor ingredients
Consult with new and existing ingredient suppliers and help source raw materials
Developing and maintaining timelines, resource allocations and budgets for projects assigned
Timely communication of all information regarding formulation, project status, costing, results, etc. to all appropriate individuals respecting the confidential nature of the project
Documenting test results, specification and procedures in a standard professional format
Managing projects by planning, designing and conducting experiments/trials in the laboratory
Participating in the transfer from test scale to full-up production
Writes and/or reviews procedures, protocols and specifications needed to support product development activities
Provides technical knowledge in guiding other chemists in the Laboratory
Periodically makes presentations to groups of internal and/or external customers
Obtains information related to research and development including raw material characteristics, processing techniques, environmental conditions, packaging requirements and production efficiencies to be used for specifications
Ensures that assigned projects are executed in a manner, which is compliant with all regulatory guidelines
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications
Master's and/or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or other relevant technical fields with at relevant quality control and product development experience and in the Personal Care industry
Experience/Criteria
Have extensive knowledge of cosmetic manufacturing, practices and operations
Knowledge of standard computer systems such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), experience using SAGE/Omni desired
Excels at interpersonal communication and able to form effective relationships across departments
Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills e.g. making presentations and writing technical reports
Proven ability to effectively communicate and get along with cross-functional teams
Business English a must
