Description
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Toolroom Manager will be responsible for day to day technical functions in the Toolroom environment
Completion of breakdown and planned work in accordance with the technical job card system
Completion of tasks as per planned toolroom machines maintenance schedules
Study drawings, sketches, models, or specifciations to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tool, dies or assemblies
Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators
Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications
Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such a slathes, spark eroders, wire cutters, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind or shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them together
Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine and hand tools
Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths or power grinders
Lift position and secure machined parts on surface plates or workables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates
Measure mark and scribe metal or plastic stock to layout machining, using instruments such as protractors, vemiers, mircrometers, scribes and rulers
Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance
Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces and feed or placeparts, tools or assemblies into furnace to harden
Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
Identification of critical spare parts for machinery, tooling and equipment
Identification of technical project equipment and components
Completion of project work in accordance with project schedule
Ensure orederly hoousekeeping in accordance with ISO TS 16949 requirements
Overtime and night shift work when required
Desired Experience & Qualification
Matric
Tool Jig and Die Trade Test
At least 5 years experience in injection moulding environment
5 years programming (ideally Mastercam/Solidworks/Creo).
Exposure to high precision industry such as automotive advantageous.
